Area Referee Banquet – 10/22/1997

As we reflect on the origins of the Soccer Green Card, we’d love to share some of the news and notes that got us to where we are today.

Ever since it was first thought up in 1997, Richard and Bob were testing it out in a variety of scenarios. As Richard was a volunteer referee with AYSO, he shared his thoughts on the Soccer Green Card with fellow referees at a few meetings and conferences along the way.

One such meeting from early on the development took place on October 22, 1997 at a Latin American Restaurant in Miami, Florida.

These training clinics were some of the first opportunities to get the word out about using the Soccer Green Card, and implementing the system encompassing its use, “The Art of Positive Refereeing”.

As we continue to find some of the old documents relating to putting the Soccer Green Card into practice, we’ll share them with you so you can share in the journey of how this concept came to grow into the movement it is today.
